Problems keep Gunthorpe Lock closed

THERE seems little chance of Gunthorpe Lock on the Trent being repaired quickly.

It was on the 4th June that boats were assisted through the lock due to a stuck paddle in the open position, then it was closed to attend to the problem, Keith Gudgin reports.

Then a further problem was discovered while the work was being carried out.

It was found that work was needed to the lock gates, which means the lock will remain closed while the work is carried out.

The latest news is that the fault is bigger than expected so it will be no quick fix, but will take into next week to repair, with no hope of access of course to the stranded boats at the lock over the weekend.
