Lift bridge damage closes Oxford

THE Oxford Canal is at present closed due to 'bridge damage'.

This occurred yesterday, Thursday, to Perry's Lift Bridge at Wolvercote, Keith Gudgin reports.

Navigation to the Thames

But being below Dukes Cut it does not stop navigation to or from the Thames for boaters not needing to cruise through Oxford.

Canal & River Trust tell the damage is due to a 'bridge strike by a third party' but as it only serves farm land there would be no normal fast traffic using the bridge.
