A MAN has been arrested for assaulting four people on the Lancaster Canal towpath.

The four included a 73 years old  man who required hospital treatment with two other men and a woman also suffering injuries, Alan Tilbury reports.

Asking for witnesses

The attack was in the early afternoon of Saturday at Hyndburn and the police are asking for witnesses from either people using the towpath or boaters in the vicinity.

A man from Blackburn has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody.

Other towpath attacks

There have been other attacks on the towpath so the police have stepped up patrols and have asked for witnesses believing there may be other potential victims.
