Caldon Closed

THE Caldon Canal is the latest to suffer a lock failure.
This makes it the third this week following on with Heyford Common Lock paddles both failed on the Oxford and the cill of Hack Green finally giving up the ghost on the Shropshire Union, closing it for a week.
Neither opening or closing
This latest lock failure on the Caldon is the Engine House Lock with the top gate post working its way out of its cup, with the gate neither opening or closing, Keith Gudgin reports.
It is not stated if it will be a temporary fix or a more permanent one.

The gate has been fixed, and the navigation reopened, but boaters told to use the lock with care, so obviously not permanent.
