Buckby flight reopens

THE Buckby Flight on the Grand Union has reopened with the waiting boats being cleared.

It was on Sunday 2nd August that a cill gave way on a lock on the flight, and though told it would reopen at the end of that week, it was not to be, but not until after another week-end, Keith Gudgin reports.

Further maintenance issues

At the time it was admitted that there were 'further maintenance issues' that obviously should have been attended to in the winter to prevent the long closure at such an important waterway junction.

There have been varied suggestions of the number of boats stuck at the three waterway connections to the flight, but with many waiting at the two large neighbouring marinas it is difficult to ascertain, and the top figure of 'over 80 boats' must surely be an exaggeration...
