Still they fail

HOT on the heels of the failure causing the closing of the Trent at Stoke Bardolph Lock comes news of two more failures as the system disintegrates.

Failure of the top lock of the Three Soulbury Locks on the Grand Union Canal has caused the flight to be closed until further notice, Keith Gudgin reports.

This time it is the cill that has become detached and needs replacing, though we are not informed if top or bottom gates. There is no intimation when this will be repaired.

The Rochdale

The Rochdale Canal has had yet another problem, this time a balance beam on Blue Pits Middle Lock (52) has failed and needs repairing so closing the waterway.

Again we are not informed which particular beam, only that a repair is planned but no date given.
