Sunk van pulled out at last

IT WAS way back in early April that a man drove a van into the Thames at Oxford.

Since then it had been polluting the river near Folly Bridge, with coronavirus halting any attempt at rescue, but this week the van has been pulled out and taken away, Alan Tilbury reports.

At the time a man in his garden nearby saw the van go in and seeing no one escape dived into the river and dragged the driver out.  Photograph by Andrew Billen.

The locals were so pleased that the van was at last being removed that they gave the workers a round of applause as the eyesore came out of the water.

The Environmental Agency told that it was the owner's the responsibility for the removal of the vehicle.
