Longer wait for Macclesfield embankment repair

THOUGH in the present circumstances it has lost its urgency, there are still problems stopping repairs of the Macclesfield Canal embankment failure at Marple.

It was in late February that the failure occurred but there have been various reasons causing delays to the repair being started, Keith Gudgin reports.

Ground penetrating radar survey

At first it was waiting for the Ground Penetrating Radar Survey—whatever that is, and since then the delay has been caused through waiting for its results, but now that the results have at last been received we are told that commencement of the work now depends on the 'availability of specialist contractors'. Discussions are taking place.

But of course coronavirus makes it of little consequence.
