Macclesfield Canal embankment repaired but still closed elsewhere

THE Palmerston Street Embankment on the Macclesfield Canal was finally repaired and the navigation reopened on Friday 13th March.

The embankment collapsed between bridges 26 and 27 at Bollington in October last year with the navigation closed, but work is now complete with the waterway open, Keith Gudgin reports.

Still closed

However, the further closure between bridges 2 and 3 at Marple Junction on the 4th March that was due to reopen yesterday, Tuesday 17th March, has been delayed.

This is as Canal & River Trust is still awaiting the results from the Ground Penetrating Radar Survey which was carried out last week.

These results, we are told, are vital in organising the method of action.
