Leicester Section landslip worse than feared

THE landslip into the waterway on the Leicester Section has proved worse than feared, so the stoppage has to be extended.

A great amount of soil and debris was deposited in the waterway by the resent storms blocking the navigation, and though Canal & River Trust expected to have this cleared quickly, further investigations have taken place showing the extent of the damage is unfortunately a lot bigger than first thought, Keith Gudgin reports.

Closed until further notice

This means that the navigation between Debdale Wharf Bridge 65 and Binleys Bridge 67, will continue to be closed until further notice and the Trust cannot currently confirm a time scale for these works, and it could take a couple of weeks to restore.

Contractors will be needed on site in addition to a dredger to clear the waterway.
