Two more stoppages

Published: Wednesday, 04 March 2020

IN ADDITION to the three stoppages already reported this week, two more occurred yesterday.

There is another stoppage on the Kennet & Avon in addition to the failure of Padworth Lock, Keith Gudgin reports.

Broken gate collar

Dreweatts Lock (79) near Kintbury, is out of action, and this time we are told that it is a broken gate collar that has caused the stoppage, and further told that the operations team will attend this morning (Wednesday) to either repair or replace the broken collar and will reopen the lock as soon as the work is complete.

The second stoppage is at Audlem Locks on the Shropshire Union, with the flight out of action  'due to limited water resources in the area'.  We are not told how this occurred, only that work is being carried out to restore water levels.

Delay in completion

Back on the Kennet & Avon and safety concerns have led to a delay in the completion of the repair to Padworth Middle Lock (96) of its 'structural defect', it requiring dismantling, that will take around three days to complete.

Good news however about  Aubreys Lift Bridge (221) on the Oxford Canal with its hydraulic defect rectified and the bridge now operational.
