NORMAL service from Canal & River Trust indeed—a Leeds & Liverpool Canal swing bridge is out of action.

This time it is Bar Lane Swing Bridge at Riddlesden on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal that is out of action, today, Wednesday, Keith Gudgin reports.

But not a failure of the mechanism, but the road barrier that has been damaged so the bridge will not operate.

This is the swing bridge that caused some controversy way back in 2011 when it was locked in the open position as it needed repair, preventing vehicle access.
