Collapsed Culvert closes Leeds & Liverpool for winter
Published: Wednesday, 23 October 2019
THE collapsed culvert on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal will closed the waterway over winter.
Stop planks have now been installed and the pound will be drained with fish rescued for an investigation to be carried out, Keith Gudgin reports.
Winter stoppage brought forward
The decision has been made to bring the winter stoppage forward, meaning the waterway will be closed until next year.
The culvert is situated between bridges 64 and 65 near Sharrocks Farm and was reported collapsed on Saturday, and was one of three stoppages on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
Good news
Good news about the other Leeds and Liverpool stoppage at Kirkstall Little Lock (7)—the cill was not as bad as expected and has been repaired with the navigation now open.
