A different experience

WHILE I feel sorry for the travails of Josie Blackburn our experience was completely different, writes Victor Hyde.

Our first boat was a 32ft Creighton fibreglass narrow cruiser. After enjoying extended cruising for seven or more years , we looked to upgrade and hired a trad narrowboat from Middlewich to explore the trad route.

Broadbeam

Finding the boat too narrow and not much better than the Creighton. We had the luck of finding a derelict broadbeam 13.6ft x 62.8ft. at Burnley this we refurbished and spent the next 10 years cruising all the wide canals and rivers in the North then lifted out at Liverpool and dropped in at Worcester to do all the southern waterways.
