Rochdale still closed

THE lock on the Rochdale Canal that had a 'blown cill' is still closed.

Contractors have investigated Lock 69 and discovered, as expected, that the cill had collapsed, so a dam has to be constructed to allow the water to be drained and the cill replaced, Keith Gudgin reports.

Next week

The damaged cill is on the tailgate of the lock, that gave way on Tuesday, but it will be next week before it is repaired and the navigation reopened.

There as been no explanation from CaRT of the meaning of a 'blown cill'.
