CaRT wants your thoughts

THE Canal & River Trust is asking boaters to give suggestions for its repair plans next winter.

It has published its draft winter maintenance programme for 2019-20 and is asking boaters to take a look and give their feedback on the plans.

Comments welcome

It states that comments are welcome until Friday 14th June when the Trust will review them and, if necessary, make changes to the programme. Boaters will then have a further chance to comment before the finalised plans are published at the end of the summer, with  Matthew Symonds, National Boating Manager at Canal & River Trust, explaining:

“Each winter we concentrate our efforts on essential repairs and maintenance while the waterways are quieter—last year spending £38 million on keeping them open and accessible for boaters. Work can temporarily close the canals and occasionally the towpath so before we finalise our plans we want to ask boaters for your views to make sure there’s as little disruption as possible.

“Winter might be the last thing on your mind right now, however your views do make a difference when it comes to shaping our busy programme so please let us know your thoughts.”
