LAST weekend my wife and I travelled from our house to our boat at Droitwich Spa Marina writes Peter Ponting.

We spent the Sunday on the boat doing the odd jobs which boaters do.

On Monday my wife drove to work in Cheltenham, and, having a week off, I decided to walk into Droitwich to do some shopping. I walked down the towpath as that is the shortest and safest way of reaching the town.

Narrowboat proceeding

As I approached Vines Park, a narrowboat was proceeding up the canal. I spoke to the owner and his mother, who were waving at children playing in the park. This being the narrowboat Sonskit.

Little did I know that, an hour later, the owner would be pronounced dead. This was a tragic accident.

People can try to work out what happened, and send comments as to how it happened; however it has happened.

People in a panic

People in a panic, work in different ways. When your mother is in a life threatening situation, you do what you can to save her. Whether it is right or wrong, you will do your best to help.

The investigation will find out what happened, whether right or wrong, a man has lost his life in a tragic accident, with his mother seeing the incident unfold before her eyes.

It is very easy to make assumptions. People are not perfect and work in different ways. Some are logical, others are illogical, some are methodical others are not. Please give the mother some respect.
