TWO dragon boat crews are taking on the whole length of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in an endurance race to raise funds for volunteers to transport vital medical supplies between hospitals.

The two crews will start off on the May Day weekend from Liverpool and travel the 128 miles to Leeds, collecting as they paddle along the waterway, Alan Tilbury tells us.

North West Blood Bikers Service

The race is in aid of a North West Blood Bikers Service, volunteers on bikes who transport medical supplies between hospitals, but who receive no funding whatsoever for the vital service they provide, and manned completely by volunteers.

There are two crews. each having 16 paddlers, one helmsman and a drummer in the 40ft dragon boats, complete with heads and tails, providing an exciting spectacle as they paddle along the waterway.
