FOLLOWING the recent controversy concerning the lack of training for newcomers to the waterways, and the dangers it brings, Aqua Narrowboat have solved the problem.
The company, based at Mercia Marina on the Trent & Mersey Canal is offering half day training sessions on boat handling as an introduction to boating and the waterways.
Increase skills and confidence
The Aqua Narrowboats Experience is skippered half day cruises along the waterway in its luxury hire boats, being an introduction to narrowboating skills, and ideal if you have always wanted to try a narrowboat holiday but are not sure if you would like it, or if as a newcomer you just wanted to increase your skills and confidence on the canals.
The skippered half day cruise along the Trent & Mersey Canal from Willington to Stenson Lock includes at least 30 minutes boating tuition per person, a chance to work the lock as part of a team, canal history and the option of taking part in a quiz along the way.
Limited to four per boat
Complimentary tea, coffee and home-made cakes are available throughout. Cruises are available on selected Fridays and Saturdays from November to March, limited to just four participants per narrowboat we are told, so as to ensure plenty of opportunity for boat handling skills. The price for the half day experience is just £70 per person.
There is also the same concept for the Corporate Aqua Narrowboat Experience. The half day cruise includes the same aspects but is aimed at businesses and managers who would like to develop some team building skills. These days are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from November to March, with a minimum of four places and a maximum of 14.
