ONCE AGAIN THE BARRIERS of Shirley Draw Bridge on the North Stratford Canal have suffered a vehicle strike.
The bridge has sustained damage and is currently inoperable, Keith Gudgin reports.
We are told that an engineer is required to attend the site to assess the extent of the damage and possibly carry out the necessary repairs before the structure can be safely returned to service.
The trust is actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, so the bridge can be repaired and will be able to operate to allow navigation.
We have often suggested automatic cameras on bridges that are often struck, so that car number plates can be 'caught' and perpetrators sued for damages, this being one of them, its barriers being broken four times last year.
Kennet & Avon
Pump issues at Bradford-on-Avon Lock 14 and Semington Lock 15 mean the Kennet & Avon Canal is low on water.
But engineers are currently working to resolve the issue, and to conserve water the locks are closed to navigation.
Stainforth & Keadby Canal
Godnow Swing Bridge on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal has failed due to an issue with the hydraulic system.
So it is closed to navigation, but engineers will be at the site today, Monday, to attend to the problem.
