THERE ARE A NUMBER OF REPAIRS that alas will not be ready for Christmas cruises.
So it will be after the holidays when repairs are likely to be completed, Keith Gudgin reports.
Foxton Flight
Starting with Foxton Flight, it was an issue with the paddle on Lock 17 of the flight on Monday that closed the the flight to navigation.
The rod has become separated from the paddle, rendering the lock inoperable. Colleagues, trained to work in confined spaces, will attempt repairs on either the 1st or 2nd January.
Ouse
Naburn Locks on the river Ouse are closed due to electrical checks needing to be carried out after recent flooding. They were closed yesterday, Tuesday 23rd.
Electricians will be attending site to carry out checks in the week commencing Monday 5th January 2026, so they will be closed to navigation until then.
Tinsley Flight
It was on Tuesday 16th December that the flight was closed by an obstruction affecting the bottom gates of the flight.
But it requires further inspection to ascertain the correct equipment to use in its removal as it has not been possible to get the pontoon into place up to now, but it is hoped that this will happen in the first week of January.
Calder & Hebble Navigation
Ganny Lock 10 on the Calder & Hebble Navigation was closed on the 7th of December as unable to be operated due to an obstruction by something underwater, which is preventing the gates from fully opening or closing.
The trust's Direct Services team is now working on facilitating a repair as soon as possible in January 2026,
A date for the removal of the obstruction and any necessary repairs has not yet been confirmed so we do not, as yet, have a date on
Macclesfield Canal
Bosley Flight from Lock 1 to Lock 12 is closed to navigation owing to damage to the gate on Lock 12.
This was discovered after recent inspection was called for.
LATEST—The gate has been repaired and the flight reopened.
