THERE IS EVERY CHANCE that the 'missing mile' of the Stroudwater Navigation will be built.
This part of the canal was lost when it was used to build the M5 motorway in the 1960s cutting the waterway in half.
The money will be used to reinstate the 'missing mile' of the Stroudwater Navigation, which was originally filled during the 1960s to allow for the M5 motorway to be built.
Now £6.4m funding will eventually see this part of the original waterway brought back into being, but it is expected that it will take from two to three years to construct. The picture shows the Lodgemoor Lane Lift Bridge on the Stroudwater.
National Lottery Heritage Fund
The money is from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and should pay for the scheme. With the help of an extra £1.5m from Stroud District Council, to show residents the council's commitment to it.
It is told that so far, already an estimated 750 volunteers have taken part in the restoration, they constructing such as, biodiversity improvements and community interests.
