A SINK hole has closed the Leeds & Liverpool Canal for an estimated three weeks.
This is between Crabtree Swing Bridge and New Lane Swing Bridge at Burscough, Keith Gudgin reports.
The teams have carried out their initial site investigations in that area and discovered a large sinkhole in the canal bed.
Significant voiding
There is significant voiding around the wash wall area over the culvert together with collapsed wash wall.
The teams are 'creating a method of repair' but it is anticipated the repair works will take approximately three weeks to complete.
So as the Wigan Flight repairs reopen the Leeds & Liverpool after a five weeks closure, here comes a three weeks closure. (As the Wigan one was originally stated!)
