Three years sees another Grantham Canal lock restored

IT TOOK three years, but now another lock has been restored on the Grantham Canal.

Lock 14 on the canal is now in water after three years work, with the BBC stating that 'Canal & River Trust wants to restore Grantham Canal further westwards and reconnect it with the main waterway', Alan Tilbury reports.

The three years project, paid for with £830,500 of National Heritage Lottery funding, took monumental effort through two lockdowns, with the BBC adding that 'the charity hopes to secure funding to restore two further locks on the canal'. (Image by Canal & River Trust.)

Phil Mulligan, of the trust, remarked:

"The events of the past year may have slowed progress slightly but it's certainly not dampened the enthusiasm and commitment of the volunteers."

Also restored

Lock 15 was restored and reopened in 2019.

The BBC article made no mention of the Grantham Canal Society whose volunteers actually restored the lock.
