THE breach on the Shropshire Union Canal at Bates Mill Bridge (109) is still not repaired.

The latest information is that it will not be until the end of May that the boats trapped at either side of the stoppage will be able to move, as that is when it is expected to be repaired, Keith Gudgin reports.

Completed

At the moment work on the concrete base has been completed and clay to the embankment with the spillway now also completed.

During the next few weeks work will continue then the dams will be removed. It is hoped for the waterway to reopen in time for the Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May.
