THE FAILURE OF A swing bridge on the Kennet & Avon Canal has closed the navigation.
This is due to a mechanical fault, Keith Gudgin reports.
Sheffield Swingbridge 19 failed yesterday, Sunday, but told a maintenance team will attend on this morning to try and get the swing bridge back in operation as quickly as possible.
Unlike the Leeds & Liverpool where swing bridges often fail, the Kennet & Avon does not seem to have such problems, though there are plenty of them.
As we discovered when we cruised to Bath, with them being 'loaded' with steel rails discarded from railways, and very difficult to move.
