Battle for Manns Bridge

Published: Wednesday, 23 December 2009

THERE is a fight raging to get the Minister of Transport to stop the building of the new road at Mann's Bridge on  its present route over the Grantham, that does not allow access for navigation.

It is now only the Minister of Transport who has the power to  have the builders raise the road  to allow navigation over the waterway, and the society is doing all it can to get people to contact the minister to have a culvert installed for the future restoration of the waterway.

Failed to notice

However, as Pam Pickett pointed out in her column in NbW, it was no less than eight bodies, including the society itself, that failed to notice the road widening scheme and its effect on Mann's Bridge in the plans, or its funding, so they are all really responsible for the present situation.

The society is suggesting people write to the Minister, Lord Adonis or Chris Mole MP and emphasise that to do this work now would be a low cost alternative to reconstructing the road at a later date when the cost will be much greater and so will the traffic flow.
