More dredging on the 'Narrow'

THE Huddersfield Narrow Canal is closed again for more dredging.

This time it is the pound between locks 12E and 13E that is to be dredged including the 13E lock chamber, Keith Gudgin reports.

Draining the pound

Floating dredgers are of course used, but this time Canal & River Trust tells that it is completely draining the pound and rescuing the fish to undertake this work.

Though the waterway is in dire need of dredging and it is to be congratulated on such work, it is difficult to understand why a pound has to be dewatered to facilitate it.

Navigation is now closed and the work starts next week.
