ADDING to the spate of recent towpath attacks there have been a further two on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

A couple walking on the towpath in Liverpool were attacked by a gang of scooter riding teens and robbed at knife point, Alan Tilbury reports.

Pushed into waterway

The man was robbed of cash and possessions and the woman, who is pregnant, pushed into the waterway. This occurred on Tuesday of last week, and the man was able to rescue the woman as the thugs rode away.

Then it was reported that a masked axe-wielding gang robbed two 14 years old teens on the same stretch of towpath on Thursday.   One of the victims was struck on the head and left covered in blood with the other punched and struck with a bat.

Jumped on from behind

The gang had the two boys down on the towpath, removed their trainers and possession including a phone  and earphones.  The two boys had been walking along the quiet stretch of towpath when they were 'jumped on' from behind by members of the gang wielding bats and lengths of wood.

The two victims were taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital for treatment and released after around six hours. The police recovered a knife from the scene and have been made aware of reports of teenagers bragging about the attacks.
