THREE of the historic Gloucester Docks warehouses could soon become a massive hotel.

Gloucester City Council has decided the empty warehouses could become a hotel so has approved their change of use. Alan Tilbury reports.

HerberyWarehousePreferred company

It has invited bids to transform the vacant Herbert, Kimberley and Phillpotts Warehouses that  overlook the basin into a new hotel, the council stating it had a preferred company to carry out the work.

The city already has a Travelodge and Premier Inn at the Quays and several smaller hotels in the city centre, but no major independent hotel on its waterfront.

Three of interest

After a marketing campaign where 50 parties showed interest in taking over the site, five responses were received for a variety of uses, with three from developers being of significance.

The council is in discussion with its landlord, the Canal & River Trust, over the changes and has been given the go-ahead.
