Canal bridges to Highways Agency

I THOUGHT it a good suggestion by Brian Jarrett concerning canal bridges, writes James Henry.

BridgeHitThe idea for CaRT to transfer all its hump backed bridges, when carrying a road, to the Highways Agency is surely to CaRT's advantage, as no longer will it be paying out for the endless repairs to its bridges that get thumped by vehicles taking off their parapets.

Clouted time after time

The one on the bad bend on the Trent & Mersey near Swarkstone has been clouted and repaired time after time, and the Highways Agency taking over by building a modern structure would save a great deal of money over the years.

Of course there are the 'must not alter brigade', but it is now modern times and the old humped backed bridges have no longer any place with the traffic of today.
