Restrictions off Leicester Section

THE lock usage restrictions on the Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal have been lifted.
After nearly two months there are no time limits on the five locks from Kibworth Top Lock (18) and Cranes Lock (22) that had been chained-up from 5pm to 9am daily, Keith Gudgin reports.
Limit leakage
The restrictions were brought in on the 2nd June owing to low water levels in the reservoirs feeding the waterway, coupled with leakage, though work had been underway to limit leakage with wooden lining strips being fitted to gates that has helped.
The drop in the number of boaters using the Leicester Section, since its previous closures, has also saved water.
