Should welcome volunteers

THERE appears to be a perception amongst many of your contributors that help at locks from volunteers is an entitlement and when they are not there, then have a go at Cart for not providing them, writes Steve Watson.

Not so many years ago there were no such volunteers at all and we all just got on with it. Surely locks are part of the enjoyment of boating otherwise why do we do it!

A welcome bonus

With the possible exception of the recent disabled boater contributor, the rest of us should view them as a welcome bonus if they are there but not gripe if they are not.

I am not a volunteer but a standard everyday boater and feel your website often berates them without understanding that a volunteer is exactly that and if they don't turn out, its entirely their choice and they and Cart should receive no criticism for it.
