K&A will be restricted for a while

THE Kennet & Avon Canal will be restricted for a while as repairs to the broken pump at Caen Hill were not possible on site.

This means the whole 14 miles waterway from the Caen Hill Flight to Crofton Flight is restricted to navigation, with limited access to the flights,  Keith Gudgin reports.

Closed on certain weekdays

The restrictions mean that there is only limited access and the flight and pound will be closed on certain weekdays and access to Caen Hill for emergency use only on Fridays.

However, the broken pump has been removed from the pump house, and taken away for the contractors to obtain a quotation then it is understood repairs should be undertaken.

The pump has been transported to repairs at Flygt’s, the company that supplied it, and of course has the facilities for repairs. There is no knowledge when this will be completed and reinstalled.
