Rochdale will be closed for weeks

THERE has been little progress with the stoppage at Lock 66 at Failsworth, with its repair not scheduled until next week.

It was a split mitre post that closed the Rochdale at Tannersfield Highest Lock last week-end, and though this had been investigated it will not be until next Monday the 17th until the broken lock gate will be lifted out, Keith Gudgin reports.

Weeks to complete

Then it will have to be transported to workshops to be repaired then brought back and lifted in. Canal & River Trust state that this will take weeks to complete. In the meantime dams have been placed around the lock to keep it drained.

Padlocks have been placed on Lock 81 and Lock 65 to prevent boats accessing the flight.
