Others take over landslip repair

THERE is a worry for boaters about the time it will take for the landslip on the Staffs & Worcs Canal to be repaired as others are taking over the repair.

The further work that is needed to repair and stabilize the landslip will now be undertaken by Severn Trent and Worcestershire County Council in the future, Keith Gudgin reports.

This announcement however did not contain the information of when the work would commence or the likely time it would take to complete, which leaves boaters at a loss as to when the navigation will reopen.

As we published, the boats that were stuck by the landslip were allowed to proceed after the Canal & River Trust workers cleared a narrow channel to allow them though, but the danger of further falls means that the waterway channel was only temporary and so the navigation is now closed until the area can be made safe.
