Landslip closes Staffs & Worcs Canal

THERE has been a landslip at Wolverley on the Staffs and Worcs Canal that is likely to keep the canal closed for some time, writes Jimmey Lockwood.

For once, it is not CaRT’s fault but Severn Trent's as a leaking water pipe washed away the bank under Lea Lane, causing it to fall into the canal.

This happened on the 1st March and, apart from Fountains coming to cut off the trunks of the trees that landed in the canal, nothing much seems to be going on.The root balls are pretty big so they will need some hefty machinery to shift them from the canal. The problem is that getting it to the site means going under Wolverley Forge Bridge or coming in from the Cookley end. At present, CaRT, Severn Trent and Worcester County Coucil are deciding what should be done, so I am not holding my breath.
