Kennet & Avon 'closed until further notice'

THE collapse of an approach chamber wall at a lock has closed the Kennet & Avon Canal at Semington.

 The failure of the wall at Semington Top Lock (16) has been inspected and it has been discovered that the wall support has collapsed, meaning the lock can no longer be used and is closed until further notice, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Pound drained

The pound between the lock and Buckley's Lock (15) has been drained to further the inspection.

The information from CaRT is somewhat misleading as it states that the stoppage ends at Lock 16 Harris Lock.
