Another fire at same scrapyard

ANOTHER fire has broken out at the scrapyard where a fire closed the Trent & Mersey Canal.

It was around eight hours after attending the big scrapyard fire that fire fighters were called back to another blaze in the early hours of the morning at the same scrapyard in Middleport at Stoke-on-Trent.

Burning tyres

The first fire it has been revealed was caused by burning tyres that caused such toxic fumes, with the police advising nearby residents to keep their doors and windows closed and Canal & River Trust to close the navigation.

Fire fighters from three stations were at the scene tackling the second fire that however was not of the intensity of the original fire and was soon doused.

Canal open

The Trent & Mersey Canal that suffered closure whilst both fires were being attended to has now been reopened.
