New canal bridge causing chaos

A NEW canal bridge being built in Stroud as part of the restoration of the Cotswold Canals, is causing worry to traders in the town who are affected.

Over 100 business owners attended an open meeting called by Stroud and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce at the Old Town Hall, Alan Tilbury reports.

Start in February

Work is due to start in February when many diversions will be in place including a busy bus route being closed for the duration of the work on the replacement of the bridge which is at the junction of the A46 Bath Road and the A419 Dr Newton's Way bypass.

This means a temporary road will have to be built and access roads to shops closed during the work, which is causing concern for the business people.

Ideas to combat the expected delays and disruption are to be discussed by the authorities concerned, which include the Gloucestershire County Council highways department.
