Man drowns in Avon fleeing from yobs

YOBS in Stratford are picking on the town's visitors to cause trouble with one victim drowning as a result.

Cameron Whelan, a visitor from Birmingham, was picked on by a gang of four in Stratford last Friday, but escaped by jumping into the Avon, but then drowned, his body not being discovered until Tuesday further down river, Alan Tilbury reports.

Pick on visitors

The gang are local yobs who believe visitors are fair game and pick fights and try and mug them. The river current was particularly powerful at the time as there had been a great deal of rain beforehand.

There is some doubt as to the way police officers behaved before his death with the police watchdog investigation what occurred before the man drowned.  No one has been arrested.
