Repeated vandalism

THE members of the Shrewsbury & Newport Canals Trust are frustrated over the continued vandalism by the waterway.

Though not yet in operation, there are parts in Newport that have been restored, but are being repeatedly targeted by vandals, so much so that a decision has been made not to replace certain items.

Often vandalised

The vandals have damaged signs, railings and benches along the waterway, with one sign at Fisher's Lock in the town so often vandalised that it has been decided not to replace it.

That particular sign has been used as rifle target practice and even set on fire.
