Culvert failure worse than expected

THE culvert failure at Aston Lock 11 on the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal is worse than was expected.

It was at the end of April that it was discovered that it had partially collapsed, Keith Gudgin reported.

Contractors installed a porta dam so that it could be more closely inspected

It was originally thought that a temporary fix could solve the problem, but upon close inspection yesterday, Wednesday, it was discovered that the culvert had failed completely and only a permanent repair would suffice.

We are told this could take a few weeks to repair with the navigation closed.
