Two navigations closed and two reopened

THERE have been two more navigations closed over the past two days but two reopened, Keith Gudgin reports.

The Macclesfield suffered a paddle failure on Lock 10 of the Bosley Flight earlier this week but this has now been attended to and the navigation reopened.

The broken cill on Lock 57 on the Rochdale has now been repaired with the navigation reopened.

The closures

But now the Huddersfield Broad Canal is closed. Yet again it is a paddle problem with a boater informing the trust  that the paddle on Turnpile Road Lock 5 has a problem.

The team have been to the lock with the intention of a repair, but further work is needed with the navigation remaining closed.

The Aire & Calder Navigation Main Line is closed at Ferrybridge Flood Lock 11 that has broken, leaving this lock inoperable.

The team will fully investigate the problem today, Thursday, to determine the best way to repair both the gates and gate posts that are broken.
