Grand Union update

TWO short pounds are now empty between Bulbourne and Marsworth, writes Howard Clarke.

Some boats, including British Waterways and privately owned British Waterways staff residential boats moved from summit pound to lower Marsworth pound and moored by the  workshops. Water level in this pound is normal.

Non navigable

At a guess the Summit Pound is about 12 inches down, Wendover Arm of course the same which probably makes it non navigable, as the bottom can clearly be seen now the water is still. Aylesbury Arm gates/paddles locked

Spoke with a British Waterways bod carrying a laptop type gadget who seemed to be taking water samples. He was very guarded in his comments. Only point of interest was that the level would not be allowed to drop lower than two feet to protect the fish. This of course relies on the reservoirs having enough water to pump!

All reservoirs are very low, a small trickle is reaching Wilstone from the spring, a better flow into Tringford which comes from the Tring Park brook feed.
