Bridge will be sorted

THE 'eyesore' parapet of the Wey & Arun Canal bridge at Loxwood will soon be sorted, with the help of a NatWest Community Force grant.

Wey & Arun Canal Trust have been delighted to receive the grant of £6,275  towards the completion of new brick parapets for the Loxwood High Street canal bridge.

Locally made brick

The parapets, which will be constructed from locally made brick to fit in with the nearby 17th Century Onslow Arms Pub and the Loxwood Lock, have been high on the Trust's agenda for some time.

Wey & Arun Canal Trust Chairman Sally Schupke explained:

"Everything is gradually falling into place. With planning permission granted and more than 80% of the necessary funding raised so far, our goal of putting the finishing touches to the Loxwood High Street bridge has never been more achievable. We now just need one final push to raise the remaining money and start the work."

Donations

The Trust has been extremely grateful for all donations received towards the parapets so far including £5,000 from Chichester District Community Chest and £7,500 from its own ‘Buy a Brick' campaign.

The trust members are particularly proud to have won the NatWest grant because winners were chosen by the local community in a public vote. Coming first out of 58 charitable causes in the Crawley area is no mean feat.
