Lack of dredging stops dredger

IT MAY seem unbelievable, but the attempt to move the Gloucester Waterways Museum's steam dredger failed because the area needed dredging!

The steam dredger was to be moved from its moorings at the museum, as it needed a hull inspection and work to be done on its boiler.

Silted-up

However, when it came to move it, there was so much silt, due to the area around the museum being silted-up, the fairly deep draughted dredger would not move.

This proved the fallacy, a spokesman related, often used by people promoting freight that deep draughted boats clear a channel.  Whilst all they do is simply shift the silt to one side, in this case up to the dredger, preventing it being moved.
