Email: On snagging ropes

In addition to the point raised in his email by Andrew Saffrey, there is a further problem with the rope snagging under the corners of the top plate of lock ladders.

I mentioned this to a British Waterway engineer a few years ago when they were finishing work on Hunton Bridge Lock; I pointed out the edge of the ladder plate protruding into the lock, the reply was:

'We have never know it to be a problem'. Well, that was official, therefore it must be correct!
