YESTERDAY, THURSDAY WAS not a very good day for boaters.
With Keith Gudgin reporting no less than five stoppages, that will affect boaters.
South Stratford
The South Stratford Canal was closed at Lowsonford Lock 32 due to a mechanical failure. A paddle frame has become detached, rendering the lock inoperable.
Huddersfield Broad
The pound between locks 8 and 9 is closed on the Huddersfield Broad Canal due to a culvert failure.
Grand Union
The Grand Union Canal is closed due to a pump failure supplying the Soulbury Three Locks. (Pictured.)
Further Grand Union
There is a further failure on the Grand Union Canal as the bottom gate on Fenny Stratford Lock is out of its cup.
Tame Valley
Tame Valley Canal is closed as there is a report of a leak/breach on the Hateley Heath Aqueduct 2.
Much quicker
Now that Canal & River Trust undertake its own repairs they are completed much quicker.
So boaters considering using any of the above should first contact the trust to discover if the work has been done and navigation reopened.
Such as the Huddersfield Broad Canal culvert that failed on Thursday, that was repaired with the navigation reopened today, Friday.
