THERE ARE THREE NAVIGATIONS that still require a solution before work can begin.

Rochdale Canal

The Rochdale Canal; was closed on the 3rd of this month Keith Gudgin reports.

This was due to a paddle failure on Lock 57 that closed the navigation.

The Canal & River Trust tell that an update will hopefully be provided on Tuesday 13th January, now the local team have attended site but are 'continuing to investigate a solution for a repair'.

Kennet & Avon Canal

Lock 52 has failed again. It failed on the 17rth June last year with a lock gate needing repairs that took a month.

This time its stoppage is caused by repairs required to a lock beam, that closed the navigation on the 30th December.

We are told that repairs to the lock beam will take place as soon as the trust can safely mobilize to site, that it is hoped will happen towards the end of this week with work the following week.

The problem with the red paddle on the Foxton Flight that that had come detached and closed the navigation has not been solved.

We are told the team was unable to reattach the paddle due to high water levels, which will require additional stop planks and pumping to lower.

The team are unable to undertake this but need specialist support to carry out the work.

This will not happen until the end of next week.

Llangollen Canal

There is a success with the Hurleston Flight at the start of the Llangollen Canal.

The locks were empty of water due to it feeding the reservoir with the trust seeing the locks as dangerous with people possibly slipping into an empty lock in the icy weather

The water levels have now improved on the flight and the navigation will open at noon today, Wednesday.
